Battersea 1 [Fiona, Tijans & Tommy]

TAKING TUT MINUTES

Fiona Lofthouse, Tijana Dabic, Thomas Peasnell

*using trees is a good idea.

* look at the difference between the soil and the above ground. To see if I is possible to put pipes underground and used to cool the air.

*also need to look and see if there is enough pressure underneath the ground to make the air flow through the house.

*Cannot put it near the water as it will just add more moisture and humidity to the air. And Kakadoo is already humid all year around.

*Cannot use the idea of putting small gaps between rooms as will be hard for the air to flow through the gaps.

à instead we should use the idea of pulling them completely apart and having small pods.

*Use double functions for things.

à wall acting as shade when the structure has been opened up.

*Having semi transparent walls

à Problem is privacy àhaving privacy while still allowng for it to expand to the elements to allow for ventilation.

*Need to explore the relationship between private and public spaces.

à there need to be a buffer zone in between the bedroom and the living spaces, while still allowing for it to be opened up.

*Can we use the part underneath the stilts for something????

à No, because it is there to allow for cool air to ventilate the house and by using the area means it would obstruct the air flow.

*Mosquito’s….???? worst at night and during the wet season.

à how will we avoid this problem?

à nets??? Need to find a way to incorporate this into the design while still allowing for the protection.

à still need to allow for ventilation at night as the temperatures don’t drop that much during the night.

*look at the wind direction for cooling purposes and also because the rain will be falling in that direction.

*find out the amount of rain fall and months that it is falling, meaning it will show the size of the tank we nee to have to cach enough water.

*look at the site for where trees are located

*Local materials to the site

à things like the local trees to the site, and possible waste to be used in our structure.

*What trees are there and what trees can we plant.

*need to check temperature change between day and night.

*orientation of sun

*Need to start drawing details of all the spaces which are opening up and closing so that we can better understand the way in which they work.
